Simon Daniel's Birth Story

Simon's birth story was so different than Emmett's. Emmett was unexpectedly born a week early after my midwife swept my membranes during my routine appointment. For two weeks before Simon was born, I was DYING to get him out. I tried EVERY trick in the book to try and put myself into labor, but nothing worked. Finally, on Wednesday February 18th I decided to take castor oil. By this point, I had not had good rest in weeks and I was exhausted. I was in pain from my back and was just so done. So, that night after talking to my mother-in-law who did it with several of her babies successfully, I took 1 Tbs. of castor oil (a very small dose...they usually recommend you take 4 Tbs at a time to start labor) just to see if it would get things going. That night at 11 p.m., I woke up with some contractions. I started to time them, and then realized they weren't getting any stronger so I fell back asleep. The next morning (one day before his due date) I decided to take one more Tbs. at 8 a.m. I felt a few contractions through out the day, but nothing too exciting. That night, I was over it and decided to take two more. I said to myself that if it didn't work again, I would just wait for him to come on his own. Again, I woke up at 11 p.m. with semi-strong contractions. These were definitely different, in that they were progressively getting a little bit stronger every few contractions. I woke Danny up, and we decided to just go to the hospital because I was sick of waiting around, and I wanted to see how far I had dilated. Emmett was with my in-laws, and so we were able to go without worrying about getting him to a babysitter's house.

On the way to the hospital, they started getting pretty painful. By the time we walked into the emergency room entrance I was having a hard time talking through them. They took me up to labor and delivery, and a nurse got me hooked up to the monitor. Right when she hooked it up, I had a really strong one and she looked at it and said "Well, it looks like the real thing to me!" I was nervous to get my hopes up though, because we had already been turned away a few days before when I was having contractions but not dilating. So, she then checked me and I was praying SO hard that I had progressed. She thought for a moment and then said, it looks like you're at about a 5! I was ECSTATIC. This was at 1:00 am. and I was admitted. We called my mom and she headed over. They brought me to a room and things started getting really painful. My mom had gotten there by that time and I was really having a tough time getting through each one. Then, they got so fast and close together there was barely ANY pause between the contractions. There was one particular set of contractions that only had less than a minute between them. By this point I was openly doing the ugly cry and wanted some relief. I couldn’t handle it, and my mom was getting mad that they were taking so long with admitting me and asking all the annoying questions even though I had already answered them when I came to pre-register. She went into the hall and practically demanded that they give me one right then. She is awesome! They then checked again and I was at six. The epidural lady came in around 2:10 a.m. and messed up a few times putting the needled in…it hurt really bad and scared me because there was a “zing” going up my back while she did it. She finally got it in and it was almost immediate relief. I don’t think there is ANY better feeling than having such bad pain go away instantly! I loved it. I was seriously joyful. We sat around and chatted for a few minutes when suddenly I felt this warmth down around my thighs. I realized my water had broke! It was the weirdest feeling and it made me laugh. My mom started to get excited because with her deliveries, she had the babies almost instantly after her water breaking. Then, around 3:15 a.m., 15 minutes after my water broke, I started feeling a bit of pain and a ton of pressure. My mom went into the hall and told them she wanted them to check me. They didn’t really take her seriously and told her they would be in a little bit. My nurse came in and checked me…I was at a TEN! She looked shocked and probably knew we were annoyed that she didn’t listen to us. She told me not to push and wait for Dr. Juarez to get there. My Dr. got there around 4:00 am.  I had a really bad cough and suddenly I had to cough during a contraction…after one push…out he came at 4:13 am on February 20th, 2015. He weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and was 19 inches long. I was immediately in love with him and didn’t want him to leave my chest. He was so beautiful and looked IDENTICAL to Emmett. It was so amazing. It is so strange because I already can't even really remember how life actually was before we had Simon. He has filled a hole in our hearts that we didn't even know we had, and he completes our little family. For now. ;) Here are a few pics from the birth and the few days that followed.

Pre-epidural...(Before the bad contractions hit...I wish I could say I was this composed through out the whole experience...haha)

After a long break...

A few days ago I had a sudden panicked feeling that my two little boys are growing up right before me, and I'm not documenting ANY of it! These past two years have probably been the happiest of my whole life, and I'm realizing that I won't remember all of the sweet moments that made them what they were. I gave the whole handwritten journal thing a try at the beginning of this year (a new years resolution) and made it about two weeks before I gave up. It took me way to long to document my days when I had to handwrite it. Another plus to a blog...I can easily add pictures to go along with all the stories/events I'm writing about.  So, first I am going to start with an update on each babe.

Emmett (2 years old)
-Putting some pretty cute sentences together that make us laugh all.the.time. His vocabulary is exploding and he really is understanding us well. His new thing he says is "Daddy home soon fix                 " whatever is broken. He really has learned who fixes EVERYTHING around here!
-Can be quite a bit of a stinker. Still likes to get into things when mom and dad aren't watching.
-Loves his "baby Vimon!" (Simon)
-Loves to say "Hoonnneyyy!" or "Baaaaaabe!" when he yells up the stairs.
-Also is in a  phase of saying "Mommy, I love you!" about ten times a day...especially when I seem mad or flustered about something.
-Is very good at saying "Please Mama/Daddy" and "Thank you"...if he doesn't say it I just stare at him until he does.
-His favorite food is cheese, cookies, and apple sauce.
-LOVES his bike and going on walks. Especially with Daddy. Along with this, he is obsessed with his ginormous bike helmet that my mom got him. It is the cutest thing ever
-Always says "Oh no I fall down!" in the sweetest voice ever.
-Just this passed week, we moved him into his "big bed"...thats a whole other story for another post.

Side note: As I was writing this, Emmett reached up into the refrigerator and got ahold of the Maple syrup glass bottle...he dropped it and it shattered EVERYWHERE. Sticky maple syrup mess with glass all over the kitchen. Hopefully I will laugh about this one day....

Simon (8 weeks)
-This boy is CUTE. We love him to pieces. He has a smile that lights up his whole face. He loves when we sit over him and just talk to him.
-He was basically in a coma the first two weeks of his life. Which led me to believe he was going to be the BEST sleeper. Well...then he woke up. The past six weeks have been a little difficult, but then I started putting him it "The Miracle Blanket". Its a swaddle where you basically tie their arms down. haha. It has been the BEST thing ever! He has slept through the night the past two nights in a row. He went from sleeping 2-3 hours at night to now going 5-7 hours.  Who knows if it will last forever, but for now we are loving it!
-Trying to make him a binky baby. With Emmett, we gave up on him ever `taking a binky and let him suck his thumb. Which was great and all for night time because he could never lose it...but at church...nightmare. I look at all these little babies who are so quiet and can sit on their moms laps during relief society and I'm so jealous! They all have their pacis in and just play with toys quietly. I could never force Emmett to suck his thumb when he needed to be quiet so it made it difficult.

And heres a big ol' photo dump to catch up:

Update on Life

These days have been full of little baby boy smiles, cooing, finally working out, eating healthy, my externship, and long days waiting for daddy to get home. Heres a few things that have been going on lately:

1. Right now Danny and I are living with my in-laws who have been so generous and are letting us live with them until we figure out our whole living situation in California. Danny is working at Canon Safe as a buyer/purchaser and is loving it. It is such an answer to prayer and we are so grateful for him to have a job he loves! I have had the opportunity to be home with Emmett which has been a huge blessing. I have been able to see every little milestone fulfilled. He is my little buddy and I just love that kid to pieces!

2. For my major (medical assisting) I needed to do an externship before I technically can be considered graduated. I have been dreading doing this last part because it means I would have to leave Emmett. After praying about it and going back and forth about the decision I decided now was the best time to do it. My mother in law was so sweet to offer to watch Emmett while I am gone getting my hours in. Its basically like a part time job (20 hours a week for about 10 weeks) so it really meant a lot when she said she would. There isn't anyone I would want more to take care of him when I cant be there.

3. I've been on a health kick! say wha? Ya I know, shocking. I can't remember the last time I have been so determined to eat healthy and take care of my body. Oh wait. Thats because I never have. It feels so good to feel my body changing for the better and to have more energy during the day. I've been doing insanity which has completely kicked my butt. Its awesome though! I feel my endurance and stamina getting stronger and I just love it. Along with that, I've been doing weight watchers. Its amazing to me how much mindless eating I did before this past month! I love being aware what I put into my body and I love the way I feel after a good day of healthy eating.

4. Right now I'm in WASHINGTON! I will update on this trip soon but its been a blast. I love being home but it has been sooooo hard being away from Danny. The longest we have been away from each other was 5 days. Im here for 10 so I think its safe to say Emmett and I will be ready to see him on Sunday!

5. Emmet is 3.5 months old!! I was going to dedicate a whole post to this but I'm to lazy to. Right now he:
-loves when people sweep their hair across his face
-always does the cutest little sounds and smiles after he sneezes (:
-gets distracted by the camera...this makes it difficult to get good smile pictures
-loves his baby k'tan wrap
-Rolls over from his stomach to his back
-ALMOST rolling from back to stomach...no more leaving him on the bed alone. 0_0
-Is a little catnapper. This kid won't take longer than a 30 minute nap! So frustrating!
-Has slept through the night a handful of times but we're still working on making it consistent
-Is in the 90th percentile for height and weight! Little chunk!
-Starts to yell (not even fuss) when he gets tired. It is so entertaining!
-Loves bath time!
